From team building exercises during orientation week in August of 1999 until graduation in the big arena in May of 2003, Drs. Garner and Loveless spent four years as classmates and friends at NC State College of Veterinary Medicine. There were about seventy students in the veterinary class of 2003, but the rigors of veterinary study and the numerous extracurricular activities (intramural softball, anyone?) often translate into memories that last a lifetime even when the graduates go their separate ways. Which is why Dr. Garner and Dr. Loveless are excited to be reunited by working at...

Meet Kali – a very lucky dog!

Kali is a beautiful, intelligent and loyal 7 year-old girl who might just be the luckiest dog I know. I first met Kali when she was adopted from the Asheville Humane Society as a puppy, and her family absolutely adores her. Kali and her family love to travel and go on outdoor adventures, so she goes along on all of the camping, hiking and canoeing trips that they take. I always love to hear about their trips, and all of the places they have seen and gone. But this summer’s adventure took a scary turn when she slipped and...

Did you know if you have an Amazon account that you can support your favorite charity every time you shop at Amazon with no cost to you? It is a great way to help local charities in Asheville. It includes some of our favorite organizations:

Pet Behavior Aid:

Although we have won this award many times, we do not take your vote for granted. We are constantly trying our best to improve the quality of care that we provide. Being totally fear-free is a lofty goal and not attainable for every single pet, but...

We want to Congratulate our latest Dog-Ed Saturday Training Classes Graduates!

Jenny White, CPDT-KA of Dog-Ed taught two different classes this past month:

“Mother May I” was a four- week class that helped families with dogs whose impulse control could use some polishing. The dogs learned how to greet people politely, how to "wait", and how to "leave". The families also gained knowledge of how to use their body language to influence their dog's behavior. Way to go!

As electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) are becoming more popular, exposures to animals are increasing as the types of exposures have changed.

E-cigarettes were first marketed in 2007 and have been gaining market share ever since. At the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center...

Since 1977, Animal Hospital of North Asheville has been actively involved in helping homeless and needy pets. Many of us have been working here long enough to realize the huge achievements that Asheville Humane Society has made in saving and improving the lives of needy pets, but we also realize that the need for funds is great as there is much more work to do.
