Congratulations to Recent Participants of Dog-Ed's Saturday Training Classes

Several families ended 2016 on a high note by participating in Dog-Ed's Saturday Training Classes at Animal Hospital of North Asheville. They took time out of their busy schedules to spend time bonding and having fun while working on life saving skills with their canine companions! We want to say way to go!

The families who participated in the Concentration Training Classes held on two Saturdays in December learned valuable skills on how to help their dogs achieve focus despite distractions. This can be a lifesaving skill that is especially valuable when lots of people are around or the pet is in a new environment. Jenny White, CPDT-KA of Dog-Ed taught techniques on how to shift the dog's attention from the distraction back to the family.

The families who participated in the Red Rover Saturday Training Class, worked with their dogs to build a strong "come when called" also known as a "recall". Teaching your dog to come enthusiastically and immediately is another important lifesaving skill. This set of classes that took place on four different Saturdays afternoons, was taught by Jenny White, CPDT-KA of Dog-Ed. Along with building a strong foundation of a good recall, Jenny taught techniques to help dogs with a good recall around distractions.

We want to congratulate all the participants who joined Dog-Ed for these Saturday training classes to learn new skills and spend enjoyable time building a strong bond with their dogs.

These Saturday training classes are different from the Free (People-only) Behavior Help sessions that we have here at Animal Hospital of North Asheville on specific weekday evenings. While the Free sessions require no registration, registration and payment is required for the Saturday classes that dogs attend along with a family member. Dogs and their people love these classes as they are fun and are taught using positive reinforcement.
