What happens at AHNA during inclement weather?

We are blessed to live in an area that mostly avoids extreme weather conditions like blizzards and hurricanes, but sometimes inclement weather does occur. Patient care is of paramount importance to us, but so is the safety of our staff.

The last time the hospital did not open at all due to weather was during the 1993 blizzard when there was 2 feet of snow on the ground. In more typical situations, the hospital is open on snowy days. We determine how late to stay open based on road conditions, making sure that our staff can get home safely. If we plan to close early, a member of our Client Care Team will call you to let you know that we are closing early, and will work to reschedule your appointment earlier in the day or on another day that is convenient for you.

If you are unable to make it to your appointment due to road conditions, we would appreciate a phone call to let us know that you aren’t coming. A phone call allows us to reschedule your appointment, and lets us know not to worry about you if you don’t arrive. You are welcome to call ahead and make sure we’re open, especially for evening or Sunday hours. If your pet is in the hospital, rest assured that our Patient Care Team will be taking care of your pet’s needs. We always make arrangements for our patients to receive food, water, walks and medications regardless of the weather. Even power outages don’t stop us! We have a generator that can sustain basic hospital function for a couple of days if needed. So if there is snow, ice, floods or storms, you don’t have to worry about anything but staying safe and making sure you have plenty of milk and bread!
