Position Overview: Supports and adds value to an efficient organization dedicated to quality care and exceptional service. Performs a variety of clerical and customer service work in providing support to the hospital.
Essential Functions:
- Offers owners and potential owners a warm and friendly greeting in person or on the phone; answers their questions.
- Provide top-notch customer service.
- Maintain a professional appearance (clothes and attitude).
- Identify and work compassionately with clients in various emotional states.
- Responds to inquiries about the range of services the practice provides and the species it treats; refers to the appropriate department/staff member as needed.
- Coordinates the flow of pets and owners in the lobby; placates owners distressed by long waits, scheduling glitches, and other problems.
- Recognizes the symptoms of pets and owners in crisis; handles basic medical emergencies appropriately.
- Assists owners when picking up medications or special dietary products; answers questions.
- Inputs data to practice management software to check pets in; makes simple postings to accounts; compiles data for various reports.
- Types and edits a variety of correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other material ensuring accuracy.
- Receives and distributes incoming mail; processes and stamps outgoing mail.
- Performs cashiering duties; processes refunds, returns, and credits as needed.
- Organizes and processes all payment plans.
- Processes billing statements and collections.
- Coordinates and schedules appointments; calls owners scheduled for the next day to remind them of their appointments, appointment times, and any special instructions, such as the need for fasting, withholding or administering medications.
- May assist with retail sales.
- May weigh pets when they come in for exams, procedures, etc.
- Responds to client emails.
- Processes faxes.
- Shows up for work regularly; full-time presence at work is essential for every shift.
- Obtain previous records from other facilities and adds to patient chart.
- Calls clients whose pets are overdue for vaccines, grooming, medication refills, etc.
- Able to learn basic veterinary medicine terminology.
- Become familiar with retail products, medications, vaccinations, routine testing, and heartworm and flea preventatives and be able to confidently discuss with clients.
- Have a strong sense of excellent customer service and be able to provide that to clients even during high-stress situations.

Receptionist Job Description:
- Able to identify conditions over the phone that can potentially be emergencies and scheduling those appointments appropriately.
- May take medication refill requests and messages for doctors.
- Able to use Windows-based computer systems, word processing, email, web search, and other skills needed to effectively use software.
- Able to reconcile the drawer and complete end-of-day duties at the close of the day.

Position Overview:
The Credentialed Veterinary Technician supports hospital operations by providing dedicated quality veterinary care and exceptional service to our patients and clients. Responsibilities include providing patient care by determining animal requirements, conducting examinations and diagnostic procedures, assisting during surgery and operations, providing nursing care, assisting with feeding and caring for patients, maintaining medical supplies and equipment, overseeing triage and discharging patients, and maintaining patient medical records.
Provide excellent patient care by applying full knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, pharmacology, equipment usage, and drug administration.
Experience with basic venipuncture, IV catheterization, intubation, general anesthesia and dental COHAT strongly preferred. Animal Hospital of North Asheville supports growth as a Technician, skills can continue to develop after hire.
AHNA is a busy 8 DVM Fear Free and AAHA accredited hospital. All applicants should be eager to uphold the standards of these accreditations. Fear Free Certification is required of all staff and will begin after hire if the candidate is not already certified.
Essential Position Functions:
- Conduct outpatient care including sample collections and processing, radiography, safe and Fear Free Restraint, assisting with ultrasound, running in-house lab testing, accurate documentation for all treatments.
- Provide compassionate and skilled inpatient care including pre and post op care, ill pet care including patients on IV fluid therapy and medication infusions, keen attention to patient comfort and changes in patient status during hospitalization. Careful documentation and TLC are essential.
- Provide skilled administration of anesthesia and sedation, with careful monitoring and clear communication between the procedure team including DVM and Head Surgery Technician.
- As directed, fill prescriptions and administer medications, including proper documentation, logging, and security of controlled drugs.
- Maintain a safe, secure, healthy, and humane environment by sterilizing and wrapping instruments, sanitizing and disinfecting holding and operating areas, storing sterile supplies, verifying shelf life, following AAHA standards and procedures, and in compliance with applicable legal regulations.
- Maintain medical records by documenting patients’ conditions, reactions, and changes; update the database in an accurate and timely manner.
- Communicate with the pet owner about the status of the patient, as directed by the veterinarian.
- Maintain equipment by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining equipment supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs in coordination with the Patient Care Supervisor and Hospital Manager.
- Monitor in-use inventory and communicate with Inventory Manager about needs.
- Maintain updated job knowledge through CE in accordance with NC state requirements.
- Release pets to their owners as directed; ensure that every animal released is clean and properly groomed before their release.
- Understand and carry out both oral and written directions.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Manager or practice within the scope of an RVT.

Dentistry
- Perform dental cleanings, polishing, charting, and intraoral radiographs (COHAT).
- Perform nerve blocks as directed by DVM.
- Assist with dental procedures and oral surgery.
- Clean and maintain dental equipment and oral surgery packs
Surgery
- Provide extensive surgical assistance by preparing pets, scrubbing, shaving, acting as a surgical nurse, and monitoring and administering general anesthesia.
- Clean, maintain, sterilize surgical equipment and packs

Qualifications:
- Credentialed Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT)
- At least 1 year of on-the-job experience strongly preferred
Position Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
- Knowledge of the preparation, monitoring, and recovery of pets receiving surgery, as well as basic pet nursing.
- Ability to demonstrate and follow correct procedures in catheter placement, phlebotomy, emergency triage, and digital radiology.
- Understand and limit the potential exposure to bites, scratches, and potential injuries.
- Able to restrain patients according to standard procedures and in accordance with a Fear Free Practice.
- Fill prescriptions and monitor sedation procedures as directed by the veterinarian.
- Ability to work with or around sick animals, potentially hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, zoonotic diseases, and unpleasant odors.
