About Dr. Loveless

Doctor Scott Loveless’s childhood interests ended up greatly impacting his life. He grew up loving his family’s pets and enjoying Boy Scouting. He eventually became not only a veterinarian but also an Eagle Scout. His family had several pets that they respected, loved and gave the best of care to, but when he was 8 years old, his parents allowed him to pick out the first pet who would be “his.” That pet was a Russian Blue cat who he named Fluffy. Unfortunately, they later learned that that Fluffy had a very serious congenital birth defect involving her liver. She died when she was less than a year old, but his love for Fluffy and the experience of her illness and subsequent death, affected him so deeply that he decided to be a veterinarian so he could help animals have long healthy lives.

Dr. Loveless graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Biology and a minor in Chemistry from Western Carolina University in 1999 and as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from North Carolina State University in 2003. That special love for cats is still there (of course, he loves dogs too), as well as a special interest in dermatology, soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, and dentistry. Dr. Loveless has extensive experience from his work at two different hospitals in Charlotte and his service as Chief of Staff for five of the years he spent at the second hospital.

Prior to joining Animal Hospital of North Asheville, Dr. Loveless has devoted time to helping less fortunate pets though his work with a Bulldog recue group, the Greater Charlotte Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and the American Pitbull Foundation. In doing this work, he enjoyed learning more about the varied medical conditions found in Bulldogs and acquiring the skills needed to help them, but most of all, he found joy in knowing these dogs will be placed in loving homes that they may otherwise not have had. Now that he is in Asheville, Dr. Loveless looks forward to continuing to help less fortunate animals through work for Asheville Humane Society.

Dr. Loveless also enjoys sharing his passion for veterinary medicine by speaking to school and camp groups. He hopes that his work in this area will not only increase knowledge of the opportunities available for careers helping animals but also increase the respect that children have for pets. He has been gratified by being recognized by the children when he returns to a school and their genuine interest in how the animals he brought in earlier are doing.

Dr. Loveless is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Society, North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association, Veterinary Information Network and a certified Fear Free Professional.

Dr. Loveless met his wife Heather when they were both students at Western Carolina University and they now have two daughters. They are happy to be in Asheville, back to the mountains they love and closer to their families. Dr. Loveless has many hobbies that allow him to enjoy the beauty of the area including hiking, canoeing, backpacking, and snow skiing. He especially enjoys the opportunity to teach his girls love and respect for the outdoors as they enjoy the outdoors as a family. At home, he enjoys playing guitar and do-it-yourself projects.

The Loveless family feel lucky to have such wonderful fourlegged friends to share their family with. Brookson and Miss Cleocatra are the cats of the family. Luna is a wonderful adopted dog that brings smiles to the family daily.
