February 28: Animal Compassion Network - Dine to be Kind

Dozens of area restaurants will be contributing a portion of their day’s proceeds to benefit Animal Compassion Network’s low-income spay/neuter program and its other lifesaving programs. For a list of participating restaurants, visit animalcompassionnetwork.org

March 10: Asheville Humane Society - B.Y.O.B. TRIVIA NIGHT (BRING YOUR OWN BRAIN) AT AHS

A trivia night to benefit homeless animals. Tables comprised of 8 people will compete for cash prizes and the coveted title of Asheville Humane Society’s Smartest Life-Saving Team. Emceed by local celebrity and animal-lover, Matt Mittan, the evening also includes vegetarian fare and auction items. March 10th, Crowne Plaza Tennis and Golf Resort, doors open at 6:00 p.m., trivia starts at 7:00 p.m. You must reserve your table! For more information, visit ashevillehumane.org

Adoption day and 4th Anniversary Party from 11:00 – 3:00

March 24th: Brother Wolf - Metro Chase Urban Scavenger Hunt

Urban Scavenger Hunt in downtown Asheville from Noon – 4:00 pm. If you’ve ever seen the “Amazing Race” and thought you could win it, here’s your chance! Explore downtown Asheville while competing for the grand prize of $1000. Limited spaces are available.

April 22nd: Brother Wolf -‘Run for the Paws’ 5K Run and 1 Mile Fun Walk at Fletcher Park – AHNA is a proud sponsor!

Get ready to hit the ground running for homeless pets at the 3rd Annual Run for the Paws 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk on Sunday, April 22nd at Fletcher Park, followed by a Wagging Wellness Fair for pets and people. The fair will feature awards, live music and food, and the great folks at YMCA and Park Ridge Health will provide free health checks for the public and games for kids. Brother Wolf - Outward Hounds Hiking Club

Every Wed (10am), Sat (9am) and Sun (10am)
Meet at the adoption center at 10am (earlier if you need to fill out a volunteer application) and take a shelter dog on a hike with other volunteers. For more information email volunteer@bwar.org or call 828-423-2954

Asheville Humane Society - Hiking Hounds

2 weekends a month – check the website for dates
Meet at the adoption center at 10am (9:30am for new volunteers for a short orientation) and you will be matched with a shelter dog to take on a walk. For more information or to pre-register (a must!) email: ahshikinghounds@yahoo.com - Feb. dates are currently full, please email about march dates.

Animal Compassion Network - Pet Loss & Grief Support Group "Paws on the Heart"

Meets on the 2nd Sunday of the month at 3pm at The American Red Cross - 100 Edgewood Rd. just off N. Merrimon. No cost, but donations to ACN are accepted to help rescued dogs and cats. RSVP not required, but appreciated. For those who have lost a pet to death, those going through the emotional roller coaster of a pet's illness, and those working in the field - veterinarians, staff, animal rescue organizations, volunteers and others who feel the loss and also are there to console their clients. Facilitated by Chaplain, Gerry Smith - an avid animal lover and one who believes deeply about the animal-human companion bond. Animal Compassion Network: Marketing Volunteer Needed to assist the Marketing and Event Coordinator with promoting and planning ACN events, programs and rescued pets for adoption. Computer skills, internet access and social networking skills (Facebook, Twitter and Hootsuite) required. Knowledge in desktop publishing and/or graphic design a plus.
