National Pet Obesity Awareness Day and 2013 Survey Results

On Wednesday, October 8, 2014, the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention conducted their Eighth Annual Pet Obesity Awareness Day survey. With the help of our clients and patients, Animal Hospital of North Asheville once again took part in this survey.

Association for Pet Obesity Prevention

Last year's Pet Obesity Awareness Survey, found that cats carry the largest share of the obesity burden with 57.6% of the feline population found to be obese or overweight. Dogs were not far behind with 52.6% of the US canine population being overweight. Pets carrying extra weight are predisposed to several health concerns such as: osteoarthritis, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart and respiratory disease, cranial cruciate ligament disease, kidney disease, cancer and decreased life expectancy.
